GUNNISON TOOK CHARGE! IN THE SUMMER OF 2011

During the Summer of 2011, Groundwork Colorado conducted a citywide canvass to promote awareness of energy efficiency, renewable energy and green jobs. Five high school and college students reached out to a total of 432 adults and 219 students throughout the city.

The centerpiece of the canvass was Gunnison’s EnergySmart program. For more information, visit www.energysmartcolorado.com or contact EnergySmart Gunnison at 970-641-7682 or Gunnison@EnergySmartColorado.com.

Two homeowners, Kristina and Nick Herrin, wanted to share their experience with the EnergySmart program: Would Kristina recommend EnergySmart to someone else? “Absolutely.” Kristina and Nick’s ranch house was “old, cold and outdated” so they enrolled in the EnergySmart for Homes Program.

The Assesment: Their home energy assessment – step 1 of the program – showed Kristina and Nick where they could save money on their energy bills. Taking the assessments’ recommendations, Kristina and Nick sealed gaps around doors, replaced incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs, and bought a new, energy efficient clothes washer.

The Result: “We’ve definitely noticed a big difference around doors,” Kristina says. She’s set a goal of implementing some larger projects, such as insulation and caulking, within a year. “I feel very connected with the resources that I need and feel comfortable contacting ORE and asking ‘dumb’ questions.”
